Saturday, April 2, 2011, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Richmond Beach Saltwater Park, 2021 NW 190th Street
Students from the University of Washington's Department of Environmental Sciences will lead volunteer work parties to clear the slopes of the Saltwater Park of invasive plants on Saturday, March 12; Saturday, April 2; Saturday, April 23. The April 2 event will double as the annual RBCA Earth Day celebration, at which volunteers can either join the weed pulling or pick up trash on the beach and around the parking lot.
All of the events are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Work parties meet in the lower parking lot of the Saltwater Park. Wear sturdy footwear, dress for the weather, and bring your own water and gloves. Minors under 14 are welcome with parent/guardian.
Many hands make light work: already, two UW hillside restoration days this season have drawn over 50 people each from the school and neighborhood, filling a dumpster with scotch broom in just a couple hours. Hundreds of square yards have been cleared and replanted with native plants and grasses, and the project is ahead of schedule.
See you there!
